The Partnerships Planning and Development Manager, (Renfrewshire Council) led a discussion in connection with the identification of local options and opportunities for action to address the previously agreed priorities of Erskine, Inchinnan, Bishopton and Langbank Local Partnership. It was the consensus that it was desirable to try and expand activities into areas within the local partnership area where activities were currently lacking. The priorities identified were:-
Leisure and Culture
The Local Partnership would like to see a focus on a joined-up culture and leisure offered across the Local Partnership area, which reflected the size and changing demographics of the local area. This included opportunities for arts, culture, leisure, and sports locally, which were key to supporting the other local priorities in this area.
Connectivity
The Local Partnership want to see places across Erskine, Inchinnan, Bishopton and Langbank better connected to each other, and to the wider area. Positive local developments would create opportunities for local people across the area, but it was important that people were able to access these. This needed good quality public transport, but also safe, clean, and green routes for walking and cycling. The Local Partnership were keen to explore opportunities for developing local community transport options. It was agreed that this was a very important issue which required more focus. A key priority was identified to map out where within this Local Partnership area still needed footpaths brought up to date.
Health and Wellbeing
The Local Partnership wanted to make sure people were aware of, and could access health services, to support both physical and mental health. The Local Partnership were keen to understand local health and care services, and what changes to these meant for their communities. The Partnership also agreed that tackling social isolation was key to improving wellbeing, with the Covid-19 pandemic and cost of living crisis further limiting wellbeing and connection opportunities for local people. In was identified that as a result of the population growth in this Local Partnership area there was a deficit of leisure facilities with demand outstripping what was available – a fundamental review was required. It was also highlighted that membership for Renfrewshire Leisure facilities could not be used in this Local Partnership area.
It was proposed that Erskine, Inchinnan, Bishopton and Langbank Local Partnership invite appropriate officers to a future meeting of this Local Partnership to ascertain what was required and what could be provided.
Intergenerational Work
The Local Partnership was particularly interested in building relationships between younger and older communities across the area and exploring how intergenerational work might support local priorities.
Community Identity
The Local Partnership wanted to support the individual identity and history of each town and village, where each place had its own strong local offer of opportunities for local people. A key part of this could be local events which celebrated this identity, and better communication of what's on across the area, to support this.
Planning and Environment
The Local Partnership wanted to be involved in, and influence, planning decisions, and was particularly interested in land ownership and use. The Partnership saw this as key to supporting a clean and green area, which included street cleanliness issues at a local level, but also wider green issues such as low carbon.
Community Empowerment
The Local Partnership wanted communities to be involved in, and influence, decision making about the area. This included making sure communities were well informed about local issues and identified ways to get people involved such as volunteering and participatory budgeting.
